Debate Club
The Debate Club at St. Jude Primary and Junior School is a dynamic and intellectually stimulating platform where young minds are nurtured to think critically, speak confidently, and express themselves with clarity and conviction. It is a key co-curricular activity that empowers learners to become articulate, informed, and respectful communicators—skills that are essential for leadership and lifelong success.
Rooted in our school’s commitment to holistic education, the Debate Club encourages learners to explore ideas, analyze issues from multiple perspectives, and engage in healthy, structured dialogue. Guided by dedicated teachers, students are trained in public speaking, logical reasoning, research skills, and persuasive communication, all within an atmosphere of mutual respect and academic integrity.
Through regular debates, discussions, and speech activities, learners develop confidence to speak before an audience and the courage to defend their ideas thoughtfully. They learn to listen attentively, respond respectfully, and appreciate differing opinions—an essential skill in today’s diverse and interconnected world.
The Debate Club also exposes learners to inter-school competitions, forums, and academic exchanges at zonal, regional, and national levels. These experiences broaden their horizons, sharpen their intellectual abilities, and instill resilience, discipline, and teamwork. Representing St. Jude’s in such platforms builds pride, responsibility, and a strong sense of identity in our learners.
Beyond competition, the Debate Club nurtures values that align closely with our Catholic ethos and the mission of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart. Learners are guided to use their voices responsibly, advocate for truth and justice, and engage constructively with societal issues. They are encouraged to speak not only with eloquence but also with wisdom, empathy, and moral clarity.
Participation in the Debate Club supports academic excellence across all subjects. Learners enhance their vocabulary, comprehension, and analytical skills, which positively impact performance in class and national assessments. More importantly, they gain the confidence to express themselves clearly in any setting—academic, social, or future professional environments.
At St. Jude Primary and Junior School, we take pride in a Debate Club that shapes thoughtful thinkers and confident communicators. We invite parents and visitors to discover how this enriching activity equips our learners with the voice, confidence, and character to lead with reason, respect, and purpose in the world beyond the classroom.
